5 Minutes to Change Your World
Promoting social change and creating community through independent filmmaking.

"5 Minutes to Change Your World"

Now in its second year “5 Minutes to Change Your World” is a documentary film contest where participating teams have seven days to create a 5 minute documentary film. Films must show the impact of the topic on the filmmaker’s community, possible solution(s) or how it transformed their world.

In a rapidly changing world, with a more socially conscious population, there are many issues to be explored. This contest simply wants to give people the opportunity to do just that; under one guiding principle: create a 5 minute short that will change your world.

The contest was inspired by a conversation between Rob (contest creator) and two friends, one a Security Specialist in East Timor and the other a local graphic artist, regarding people in the 3rd world using guns for power. It resulted in the thought that if we could replace the guns with knowledge, by giving them a $100 computer, we could perhaps help them change their future.

That 5 minute conversation lead to the concept that someone outside of the issue could perhaps see a solution, and so, “5 Minutes to Change Your World” was born, with 13 film makers creating films that drew attention to possible solutions for problems they identified in their community.

Collectively, the films from last year were seen over 5000 times and got noticed by producers in New York and Los Angeles. This year Rob and his team are looking to make things bigger and better. Their goal is to increase the number of participants, expand the viewing audience, and continue building our community.
